31st Annual Student Show and Annual Meeting at Crealdé on June 10
Crealdé students are preparing their artwork for submission to Crealdé's 31st Annual Juried Student Show, which will be on display at the Alice and Williams Jenkins Gallery from June 10 to August 31st, 2011. This is the highlight of Crealdé's year, as students showcase their finest work to the community. Guest jurors will select an assortment of artworks in painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, and photography, created by a dedicated group of students, Fellows, and Studio Artists who attended Crealdé in 2010 and 2011. Many of the pieces will be for sale. Students will be awarded recognition in the form of prizes, certificates, and ribbons, and one purchase award. The opening reception for the Juried Student Show will be held in the Alice and William Jenkins Gallery on Friday, June 10th from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.
The Annual Membership Meeting will coincide with the opening reception, from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Showalter Hughes Community Gallery on Crealdé's main campus. The meeting offers a chance to celebrate the year in review and includes the Annual Report presentation, as well as recognition awards for faculty, volunteers, and community supporters. In addition, Crealdé members will elect the new volunteer Board of Directors. This is an opportunity to hear from the people who use their creativity, ingenuity, and heart to make Crealdé School of Art possible. Executive Director Peter Schreyer and President of the Board David McLeod will report on the state of Crealdé as well as future plans.

Orlando Shakes presents a fun-filled adaptation of a fairy tale Classic,
Snow white and the seven dwarfs

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF is delighted to begin its 2011-2012 Theater for Young Audiences Series with an interactive and engaging adaptation of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, playing at the John and Rita Lowndes Shakespeare Center from July 7 through August 7, 2011.

Based on the classic fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS tells the famous story of a sweet girl who lives in the woods as part of a most unusual family - and of the Wicked Queen who will stop at nothing to be the most beautiful woman in the kingdom. Told with help from the younger members of audience, SNOW WHITE is wicked fun for the whole family.

In addition to public performances at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center, Orlando Shakes is excited to offer an opportunity for families to delve deeper into the fairy tale through a fun and interactive story time at Barnes and Noble on Saturday, July 9 at 11AM. Led by the cast of SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, this engaging 20-minute reading is an excellent precursor to the performance. Everyone attending will have a chance to win free tickets to attend a performance of SNOW WHITE at Orlando Shakespeare Theater. The story time for SNOW WHITE will take place at Barnes and Noble in the Colonial Plaza Market Place (2418 E Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32803).

Since 2002, Orlando Shakespeare Theater has provided quality productions for young people and their families. The Theater for Young Audience Season continues in October with a musical adaptation of MISS NELSON IS MISSING from October 20 to November 19, 2011 and CHARLOTTE'S WEB from March 29 to April 29, 2012. "This season offers families the opportunity to enjoy three dynamic adaptations based on works by well-known children's authors," Anne Hering, Orlando Shakes Director of Education commented. "The best part is that all these shows ignite the imagination and act as a launching point for theater appreciation as well as a life-long love of reading."

Single tickets and TYA Flex Passes are available now at <> or by phone (407) 447-1700 <tel:%28407%29%20447-1700>.

Orlando Shakespeare Theater also offers student matinees specifically for schools, summer camps, and day cares. Learn more about the student matinees at <>.

The Confident Line: Henry Patrick Raleigh
May 14 - September 11, 2011
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 14 6p.m. -8p.m.
Henry Patrick Raleigh (1880-1944) spent decades navigating high society and portraying opulent life as one of America's highest paid illustrators. He took his first job as a sketch artist for the San Francisco Examiner. While there, publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst noticed his talent and encouraged him to move to New York City.
Raleigh continued newspaper work while also creating illustrations for iconic publications such as Harper's Bazaar, The Saturday Evening Post, Vanity Fair and Colliers. Some of the greatest writers of the day, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, sought after Raleigh. Fitzgerald even wrote a fan letter saying, "Honestly, I think they're the best illustrations I've ever seen!"
Raleigh led a small pack of illustrators in this time called the "Golden Age of American Illustration." Improvements in printing technology freed illustrators to experiment with color and bold draftsmanship. His "confident line" created a portrait of American aspirations.
Art and History Museums, Maitland is proud to exhibit a selection from the Raleigh Archive, courtesy of collectors Kate and Chris Raleigh.
