The concert will be held at 3 PM on Sunday November 15 at St. John's Episcopal Church, located at 211 North Monroe Street. The performance is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted and free childcare is available. =0D=0A= Stabat Mater is a thirteenth century Latin hymn that has been set to music by many composers, including Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The Bach Parley will perform this piece and also J.S. Bach's "copy cat" version, performed for the first time in Tallahassee. Bach used the musical setting of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and changed the words to the German text of Psalm 55. Bach's parody of Pergolesi's music is almost identical for many of the movements; sometimes Bach just added a little more interest to the viola part. Where today we would think of plagiarism, in music at this time "borrowing" from another composer was somewhat routine and acceptable. In between the two vocal pieces, Eva Amsler will join the Parley to play J. S. Bach's Trio Sonata in G major, BWV 1038. =0D=0A= =0D=0A= Future Tallahassee Bach Parley concerts for the 09-10 season will be:=0D=0A= =0D=0A= Sunday, June 6, 2010, 3:00 PM=0D=0A= "D'amore and More"=0D=0A= Vivaldi Concerto for Viola D'amore=0D=0A= St. John's Episcopal Church=0D=0A= =0D=0A= The viola d'amore has 6 strings for playing and 6 strings strung underneath the fingerboard that produce sympathetic vibrations. This gives the viola d'amore a very distinct, mellow tone. Melissa Brewer will perform Vivaldi's concerto in D major for viola d'amore. =0D=0A= =0D=0A= The Tallahassee Bach Parley performs on period instruments to more closely replicate the experience of baroque music as it was performed hundreds of years ago in smaller settings. Baroque instruments are tuned to a lower pitch than modern instruments, and the string instruments use gut strings, which gives the music a more transparent sound and intimate feel. As in previous concerts, commentary will be provided before each piece to give the audience ideas about what to listen for in the music and to make the atmosphere more relaxed.=0D=0A= For additional information about the Tallahassee Bach Parley and future concerts, visit www.tallahasseebachparley.org. =0D=0A= END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
