Alliance for the Arts Presents 2011 Bruce T. Gora Sunday Sunset Concert Series
Bring your blankets, chairs, coolers, family and friends. Live jazz concerts are back in rhythm, in the Lee County Alliance for the Arts 2011 calendar of events. Presented at the Alliance open-air amphitheatre, the Bruce T. Gora SUNDAY SUNSET CONCERT SERIES features three concerts: Doug Cameron - February 27th, Davina & The Vagabonds - March 27th and The Juice - May 1st.
"The concert series is a fantastic way to spend a Sunday evening and unwind with fellow music-lovers," says Lydia Black, Executive Director of the Alliance for the Arts. "Concerts cater to all tastes, from Jazz, Blues, Folk and Rock to Big Band and Swing."
Kicking off the series on Sunday, February 27th is one of the true innovators of the contemporary and electric violin, Doug Cameron. With eight CD's to his credit, Cameron has long been an international favorite on jazz radio. An arranger and composer as well, Doug features many of his own compositions on his CD's. A veteran of the Los Angeles studio scene, Doug has recorded and performed with a wide range of artists including George Benson, Doc Severinsen, Tom Petty, Cher, The Allman Brothers, Dionne Warwick and many others as well as numerous motion pictures and commercials. Hear a preview of his music online at http://www.dougcameron.com/#/home
Taking the stage on Sunday, March 27th Davina & The Vagabonds are known in The Twin Cities, Minnesota as being the busiest band in town because of their hard-working professionalism, high energy stage performance, and original sound. Their music has been described as, "…hot jazz-blues-cabaret-soul-lounge-rock that warms the soul an just plain makes ya wanna dance," by John Hammer, Blue Monday. Listen before the concert at <http://www.davinaandthevagabonds.com/index.html>.
Mention the words "soul, rhythm and blues" in the same sentence and the Lee County community knows who you mean. The Juice, a band composed of SWFL's most experiences and talented musicians will wrap up the 2011 concert series on Sunday, May 1st. With a show that has been described as "Sealed Fresh, 100 Percent Natural Blues and Soul," The Juice radiates energy with their mix of unique talent. They have opened for national acts and are active participants in local festivals and events in the southwest Florida area. Band members include Richard Ianuzzi - the founder and drummer for the group, Joe Connors - guitarist and lead vocalist, Lynn Richardson -vocalist, Michael Baer - on the keyboard, Doug Simonson - trumpet, Ernie Cantu - vocalist and saxophone and Larry Hobbs - bassist.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and coolers to picnic on the lawn as they enjoy an evening of live music. Concerts are set to begin at 5PM. Doors open at 4PM. Proceeds from the concert series will benefit Alliance Education Programs, ARTreach and set the stage for future outdoor concerts at the Alliance.
Tickets will be available January 1, 2011 at the Alliance for the Arts located on the corner of Colonial and McGregor and at the door. General admission is $15 per person. Alliance members may purchase series tickets to all three concerts for $35 per person - become an Alliance member today.
