Beyond Bling: voices of Hip-Hop in Art
This exhibition brings together artists who, in the first decade of the 21st century, have provocatively incorporated signifiers of Hip-Hop/street culture into their work. It is an exhibition that incites further questions and expands our ideas of what it means to speak with a historically urban voice in this age of advanced globalization.
See this exhibition during regular Museum hours, 10 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Thursdays until 8 p.m.
This exhibition is included with regular Museum admission. Call 941.358.3180 for advance tickets.

Event Title: Jazz Drawings by Martina Wald
Sunday, May 22, 2011
Jazz Drawings by Martina Wald Exhibiting in Alliance Member Gallery
Lee County Alliance for the Arts exhibits the artwork of German native, part-time Sanibel resident, Martina Wald, in the Member Gallery on May 6th-28th. The exhibit features various pieces of Wald's jazz-related artwork, allowing guests to view or purchase while enjoying browsing the gallery.
Martina's artwork is inspired by her love and passion for jazz music, as she composes all of her pieces while simultaneously viewing and listening to live jazz concerts. Wald focuses on the connection between musician and instrument by improvising and jotting down lines onto paper during the concerts. This process makes her work uniquely expressive of the tones and emotions conveyed through the music as it is experienced firsthand.
The opening reception for the exhibit will be held at the Alliance on May 6th, 5:00-7:00PM, and is free and open to the public. The reception also presents the work of artist and News-Press Cartoonist, Doug MacGregor, whose exhibit, "Poked in the Mind's Eye", will be on display in the main gallery at Alliance.
For more information on the artists and their work, visit Alliance for the Art's Website, www.artinlee.org, or call (239) 939-2787.
