The 2005 Florida International Festival - Celebrating 100 Years
of the London Symphony Orchestra and Much, Much More!
Daytona Beach becomes a Mecca for music lovers beginning July 15,
when the biennial Florida International Festival opens. This 16-day
extravaganza features more than 80 presentations of music, dance,
and family entertainment including a 10 day residency with performances
by the internationally acclaimed London Symphony Orchestra!
Last
year marked the 100th birthday of the London Symphony Orchestra
(LSO) and Daytona Beach is their final stop in a year-long celebratory
tour. The LSO's summer residency has been the highlight of the Festival
for more than 30 years, giving Daytona Beach the proud distinction
of being the "Official American Summer Home" of the London
Symphony Orchestra. In fact, the LSO is the ONLY European orchestra
to hold a summer residency in the United States.
In
addition to featuring the LSO, the 16-day-long Festival is filled
with a multitude of additional distinguished performers. This year,
the best of the best fill the Festival's stages, including world-renowned
jazz artists Dave Brubeck and Regina Carter, Irish superstars Dervish
and family program TYPO! featuring Jamie Adkins who just performed
in Liberty Theater in New York City, to name just a few.
Performances are organized into several "series" - the
London Symphony Orchestra, Festival Stage, Jazz & Beyond and
Mini Concerts. The brand-new Family Fest features programs for children
of all ages. The come-as-you-are events provide a casual atmosphere.
The Festival's Education Outreach also offers free concerts and
once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to talk with and train with the
masters.
Special
travel packages and hotel offers are posted at www.fif-lso.org.
Tickets
may be purchased Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the
