Voci Dance, Central Florida’s acclaimed modern dance company presents “Out of the Box” an evening of dance, art and poetry. The November 3, 4 and 5th production takes place at the new CityArts Factory located at 29 South Orange Avenue in the heart of downtown Orlando. The production will feature the collaborative efforts of renowned guest choreographer Ellie Potts-Barrett, guest artist Christa Bell of Seattle, the third ranked performance poet in the US, local visual artists Anna McCambrige, Joulia Vitaliy, Rick Jones, live painting by John Carollo, and choreography by Voci Artistic Director, Genevieve Bernard and Company members.
This production marks Voci’s sixth performance season in Central Florida. “We are honored to be the first performing arts group to utilize CityArts Factory’s 2nd floor performance space and are eager to promote an evening with an interdisciplinary arts approach. We invite people to think outside the box and want to offer a unique quality arts experience,” said Kelli Cummins, Voci’s new Executive Director.
Voci (VO-chi) meaning “voices” in Italian reflects the Company’s creative process. In addition to commissioning the work of renowned artists and choreographers both locally and nationally, each Company member is given the opportunity to create and share their choreographic voice. This process results in a diverse range of works including, classical, athletic, humorous and abstract. Voci Dance was founded in 2000 and became a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization in 2003. In addition to receiving funding from United Arts of Central Florida, Voci has also been awarded grant funding from Arts For a Complete Education for their work incorporating core academic curriculum with creative movement and dance.
The Downtown Arts District, Inc. (DAD) was created in 2000 to promote art, local artists and the economic development of the downtown area in the City of Orlando. “We are very excited to be working with Voci Dance this season. We look forward to this inaugural performance and a long relationship,” said Downtown Arts District Executive Director, Cassy Turiczek.
