Amie Gonser
Painter
 Amie
Gonser was born in New Iberia, Louisiana in 1974. She grew up on an
LSU owned research station just outside of Jeanerette, Louisiana. Drawing
was a part of her life for as long as she can remember. She remembers
dressing as an artist for kindergarten career day. Attending a small
high school, where no studio art classes were offered, Amie was mainly
self taught, but did take a few private lessons from local artists.
Amie studied painting and drawing at the University of Louisiana
at Lafayette and completed her BFA in 1997. In 1998, she moved to Tallahassee,
FL, attended Florida State University and completed her MFA in 2000.
After receiving her master's degree, Amie taught drawing and figure
drawing at FSU for a few semesters, then in 2001, began teaching at
Tallahassee Community College as an adjunct instructor.
Over the past six years, Amie has taught a variety of two dimensional
studio art classes at TCC including figure drawing, watercolor, and
design. She has shown her work in Quincy, Tallahassee, Cedar Key and
Winter Haven, FL. Also, Amie has shown in Valdosta, GA, and Lafayette,
LA. Recently, in May of 2007, Amie and her family relocated to the art
filled city of Austin, TX. Amie continues to paint and draw and plans
to share her skills and talent with young artists in the Austin area.
Many of her daughter's daily experiences trigger memories of her own
childhood. These "snap shots" of innocent freedom are revisited
through her recent paintings.
