Richard Harmon
Professor, Fine and Performing Arts
Richard
Harmon is currently a professor and designer in the Fine and Performing
Arts Program at Seminole Community College. He came to Orlando to teach
as an Associate Professor with the Department of Theatre at The University
of Central Florida and has taught graduate and undergraduate courses
in theatrical design and technical theatre.
Prior to joining the Department of Theatre at UCF, he was a faculty
member of the Theatre Program at Transylvania University in Lexington,
Kentucky where he was a recipient of a Bingham Award Fellowship for
Excellence in Teaching. He has been responsible for the designs of sets,
lights, and/or costumes for over 150 productions in the area of theatre
and dance.
Rich is a graduate of New York University's School of the Arts where
he received both B.F.A. and M.F.A. Degrees. Ensemble Studio Theatre,
Hudson Guild Theatre, Theatre at St. Clements, Theatre for the New City,
Equity Library Theatre, The Negro Ensemble Company, and Riverside Shakespeare
Company number among the dozen-plus off-Broadway theatres in which his
work has appeared. With his work as a resident designer for New Federal
Theatre he has merited two AUDELCO Recognition Awards for Excellence
in Black Theatre.
Rich is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829. He has served
as a teacher of theatrical design on the faculties of several universities
including Bucknell, Cornell, SUNY at Old Westbury, UC at Santa Barbara
and Hofstra University. Locally, his Theatre UCF credits include both
set and lighting design for Nunsense, Death of a Salesman, Picasso at
the Lapin Agile, and I Love My Wife (which he does), scenic designs
for Nora, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Ah Wilderness!, A Raisin in the
Sun and Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander, and lighting designs for
Fame, Something's Afoot, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Crazy For You. At
SCC he has been responsible for the scenic designs of Dancing At Lughnasa,
The Trojan Women, Hay Fever, Anything Goes, Christmas Carol (a collaborative
production with The Orlando Theatre Project), Two Trains Running
(a collaborative production with The
Peoples Theatre),The Good Doctor, Anna In The Tropics,
Smokey Joes Café, Oleanna , Fences,
Art, Red Herring, Company, Urinetown, Ma
Raineys Black Bottom. Presently he is working on the designs
for Tartuffe which will be the final presentation of the SCC
season.
