Shelagh Inglesby
Shelagh
Inglesby, 34, has been an artist since she was able to pick up crayons,
sometimes drawing on walls or in books to her parents dismay. She won
her first art contest at seven years of age and since then has won other
local and national competitions.
Shelagh attended Ringling School of Art & Design and then finished
her art studies at the University of South Florida, majoring in Drawing
with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Her strongest art form is drawing, also known as illustration. Illustration
is the combination of drawing and painting in various mediums. Shelagh
usually uses both hand drawn illustrations and computer programs to
produce a finished piece. Besides illustration, she also paints, creates
murals, portraits, sculpts, designs web sites, graphic designs, and
even designs and produces costumes.
Her favorite art subjects are animals, fantasy, science fiction, and
surreal. She describes her artistic vision; "My goal is to reach
people with images, to make an impact. I'm torn between wanting to evoke
an emotional response and also creating something beautiful to look
at. I feel that there is a best solution to every creative problem and
I always seek to find it."
Shelagh creates art in a huge variety of styles."I think I'm too
versatile. I am truly a jack-of-all-trades artist." Her style ranges
from subtle and sophisticated to dynamic and juvenile cartoons. "I
think every artist goes through a Renaissance. We evolve and grow constantly
seeking the ultimate art expression. First I mastered photo realism,
and then moved on to expressive art, art that goes beyond what a camera
can do." Her favorite artist is Maxfield
Parrish whose work she describes as "breathtaking." Maxfield
Parrish was an illustrator known for his fantastic classical paintings
involving surreal scenery and lighting. "He captures light and
mood much like the artistic genius Leonardo
DaVinci and he has the linear drawing skills of Sandro
Botticelli (best known for The
birth of Venus)," she adds.
Recently Shelagh has been developing her own art business, "Art
by Inglesby," in which she offers a wide array of art services
from illustrations, to photo montages, to graphic design.
